Dracin looked at Egan, her twin brother, who nodded assuring that it was safe. Dracin shook her shoulders and spread her reddish-green scaly wings. Stiff, ready to help the Dragons reach a safe place far from human eye. The little Dragons followed her lead taking to the sky as the larger ones followed her twin.
They were so close.
It had been a long journey to find the Haven and the promise of safety. If the organization found them it could be trouble.
‘Now. Now.’ she mind spoke, a gift of a few magical of the magical beings, ‘Stay in formation. You must look like ducks.’
Luckily under the cover of darkness, their true forms were hidden and could be seen as no more than an ordinary human sight.
‘Dracin, the tower. We’re nearing an airport.’ Egan noted.
‘We can’t stop now. Pull the others higher. Watch for planes. We have to make it. We will make it.’ Dracin responded the last more to herself than her brother.
She continued hoping the time they had left would find them somewhere safe.
Dracin never expected to care for so many Dragons, but they all sought what she did; a place to be accepted. The other Havens were fine, but always suspicious of Dragons, and not always adapted to care for caring for the larger ones.
The light of the tower passed again, and again, as she ushered the others forward. They were not young Dragons, the ones she led, but just the smallest breed. Fighting the wind, the constant travel, but they continued to fight.
Fear was a constant in everyone’s minds. The thought of losing everything was petrifying, but being together reassured them the only power fear had was what they had given it.
They would find a Haven, even it if wasn’t this one.
The darkness gave way to sunrise, signaling time for rest.
‘There. It’s a forest.’ Egan stated.
‘Even so, we need to find clearing’s big enough for the others to land.’
“How far away do you think we are?” Egan asked once the others had landed and hidden for the day.
Dracin, settled with her back against a tree, surrounded by a few of the smaller Dragons, answered, “A days flight, maybe less.”
“What do you think it is like?”
“What?”
“To have a home? A family?”
Dracin began to pet the Dragon on her lap, “Like this I think, but safer.”
Despite all the fear, all they didn’t have, they had each other. In its own way, it felt safe. That tomorrow, despite all the challenges, they would make it through together.
The Dragons in all and various forms took time to rest and time to guard.
As dusk turned to night the Dragons, in formation again, took off from the ground.
Anticipation met excitement as they danced in the sky with the thought of being so close to safety.
Hours turned to days and they were no closer.
‘What are we supposed to do?’ A larger Dragon, Plamen, asked as they discussed options.
“We will continue. We can not stop. We will find it.” Dracin said, slowly losing hope herself.
“When Dracin? When? We have been flying for so long. What if the organization found it?” Egan asked unsure of their plans.
“They didn’t.” She said doubtfully.
“How do you know? We don’t know anything!” Egan almost shouted.
“I will not live and make decisions in fear. We still are alive. We haven’t been found out. We will make it. We can not give up now.”
“Why?”
“Because we are fighters, and we do not give up. We will make it.”
“So what do we do?”
“We keep going.”
‘For how long?’ Plamen spoke up, ‘I understand your desire, but decisions must be made.’
Dracin felt the fear of questions and concerns enter her mind. What if, overwhelmed her mind like a plague, but could not stop the hope of what could come.
The promise of tomorrow.
“I will go scout. All of you stay and rest. We will decide after I get back.” Dracin flew off looking for hope that she could share with the others but found none.
She landed feeling the weight of fear and hopelessness. What if they could not find it?
“Are you looking for something?” She heard a voice ask.
He reached out a hand, “I’m Daisuke. I was told someone like us was spotted outside. Is it just you?”
Dracin felt cautious but recognized something in the man that she recognized in the others.
“Yes. The rest of my family.”
Daisuke flew in his full form and laughed once he saw the brood, “You have a big family.”
“We kept picking up more along the way.” Dracin smiled.
Daisuke led them flying over the largest grounds they had seen. The Haven was beautiful. Other Dragons in all forms. Playing, working, all looking to the newcomers as they touched down.
Daisuke smiled as a change came over the weary travelers,
“This is the Dragon’s Keep. Welcome, Home.”

I am loving The Adventure Shop! Fiction and fantasy is such a diverse genre, but many times, stories seem to follow similar paths. It can be difficult to find and to write something truly unique, but that is precisely what you have created with The Adventure Shop! Your characters are so relatable, and there are so many great details and descriptions woven throughout each post. I haven’t decided yet which character is my favorite, but once I do, they will certainly hold a spot tied with Greeney ☺️ I can’t wait for your next post!

“One more time.” The way you spoke about that phrase reminded me of Hebrews 12:1-2.
I’m so thankful for the example you are setting.

I admire your willing vulnerability and how you have place fear into the open, showing it to be a sad little creature that can only torment when unacknowledged.
I have not overcome fear of creating in a while, might be time to start seeing as I have a role model.

I think putting yourself out there is one of the most terrifying things you can do, but it can be so rewarding! So I try to not think of the negative “what if’s” but rather the positive ones, you’ve got this!
